English Certificate - Level A2 - Course 1 provides students with the necessary tools to communicate in a limited number of the most familiar situations in which the English language is used in everyday life. Students at this level are able to understand the main points of simple texts, many of which are of the kind needed for survival when travelling or moving around a foreign country. The course contains speaking and writing assignments.
Once the course has finished, students are able to understand sentences and common expressions in different familiar situations for their daily life or when travelling. Specifically, students learn to describe the home and familiar surroundings, to give physical descriptions in the present and describe situations in the past too. Students learn how to talk and ask about quantities, tell stories, express orders and intentions, talk about habits and describe everyday activities. Students specifically learn to offer and receive information in a clothes shop and in a restaurant.
The vocabulary studied throughout the course includes: parts of the house, furniture, quantities, months and seasons of the year, vocabulary related to shopping (size, price, pieces of clothing, colours...), methods of transportation, ordinal and cardinal numbers and everyday activities.
This course also includes specific vocabulary and expressions related to the retail industry, in particular to apparel and footwear. Students learn about different colours, fabrics, patterns and pieces of clothing in detail as well as useful expressions to use at the clothing shop and to talk about the refund and exchange policy. In addition, students also widen their food and supermarket vocabulary. All the lessons include a series of typical situations and dialogues that help students contextualise and memorise vocabulary.
Students practice all the language skills: writing, speaking, listening and reading through a series of interactive and contextualised exercises. They learn through tasks that include real-life dialogues, word/sentence – picture association and video dubbing exercises. The last lesson of each unit has some test exercises so that students are aware of their progress.
English Certificate - Level A2 - Course 2 provides students with the necessary tools to communicate in a range of everyday situations which require a largely predictable use of language. At this level, learners can understand texts in more detail. This course contains speaking and writing assignments.
Once the course has finished, students can understand the main points of the clearly expressed familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure and other daily situations. They can also deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in an area where English is spoken and produce simple connected texts on topics that are familiar or of personal interest. Students also learn to describe experiences, dreams, hopes and ambitions.
Through this course students learn to talk about present, past and future situations, describe the weather as well as express possession, duration and movement. They study how to express quantity, tell stories about personal experience and describe objects. Students specifically learn to communicate in an airport, in a clothes shop and learn vocabulary and expressions to plan an important event.
Vocabulary studied in this course includes: methods of transport, daily activities, weather adjectives and nouns, verbs of movement, public places, clothing items, farewells, shapes, materials and vocabulary related to tourism and supermarkets.
Moreover, in this course students learn specific vocabulary and expressions related to the tourism industry: booking a hotel room, going to the travel agency, complaining about services, etc. All these lessons include a series of typical situations and dialogues that help students contextualise and memorise vocabulary.
